 Maddie Anderson Musical Meaning Blog, Module 6  November 20, 2022  The Banshee - Henry Cowell     I chose to analyze the piece titled “The Banshee”, by Henry Cowell. This piece relates to the module because I believe it is a great example of experimentalism in western art music tradition. When first listening to this piece, I was very much so taken by surprise. It looks like the musician is simply sitting at the piano to play a normal piano piece, however that is not what this piece of music consists of. All of the unique aspects of this piece is what influenced me to pick it to relate to our module of experimentalism. This piece by Henry Cowell definitely explored new areas of western music after composing “The Banshee”. Maddie Anderson  October 16, 2022 Musical Meaning Blog, Module 4  Nocturne op.9 No.2 ~ Chopin  This piece, Nocturne op.9 No.2, by Frédéric Chopin, relates to the module, Music and Virtuosity, in many ways. This piece was created in 1830, when Chopin was only about 20 years old. This piece was created in the midst of the Early Romantic Era and was said to be inspired by the nighttime. One of the reasons I decided to use one of Chopin's pieces for this specific blog post was because Chopin was considered one of the best pianists in his era. We recently learned the meaning behind "virtuosity" in regards to music, which describes remarkable musical talent and ability. Chopin is also known for revolutionizing piano, which is clear when listening to many of his pieces, including the one I chose, Nocturne op.9 No.2. As one of Mozart's most popular pieces, it has been featured in several films and heard by millions. This light, upbeat, and pleasant piece helps bring to life various movies and productions over the years and is widely known as one of the most popular classical pieces ever.  This piece holds a lot of meaning and significance in society as a whole, as well as in my own life.
